When working with a tool that allows you to first set points, then edit them and finally right-click to apply, you can skip the edit and apply stages by right-click the last point when setting points. For example, if using GT Shape tool, left-click the first point then right-click the second. The effect will be applied immediately without any further ado.

When cutting out objects with well defined edges, you can save a lot of time by using the Pen and Path tool in the Magnetic Lasso mode. This mode allows Pen and Path to automatically detect edges and select them with just basic guidance from you. Such selections typically take just a few seconds to do and optimize.
