File Associations are system-wide settings that allow you to
choose which file types you would like to open in Chasys Draw IES by default, e.g. when you double-click them in a “My Computer” window (Explorer). Chasys Draw IES supports over one hundred file formats, any of which you can associate with the Artist or Viewer component. You add and remove associations at any time. Chasys Draw IES will provide your operating system (Windows) with thumbnails and previews for the files it is associated with.
To make this easy for you, Chasys Draw IES provides a set of configuration dialogs where you can manage file associations. This is an administrative task that requires administrative priviledges on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 10 and Windows 11. The first dialog allows you to manage file associations in broad groups:
A green tick means all of the file formats in the group are selected, a red cross means none are selected, and an amber question mark means some are selected and some are not.
The second dialog allows fine control on the level of individual file extensions; this two-step approach is important because Chasys Draw IES supports 135 different file extensions:
During initial setup, you will get a warning if you have chosen to make Chasys Draw IES the default app for common formats such as JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF and BMP. This is intended as a confirmation step just in case that is not what you intended.
When you remove a file association, Chasys Draw IES will restore the previous association is one existed when the association was made.
Chasys Draw IES includes 32 bit and 64 bit thumbnail handlers that will render thumbnails for use by Windows for all file formats associated with it.
