I am working through the lessons and i cannot get past #1, The tutorial on painting. I cannot fade the "grass" in lesson one (http://www.jpchacha.com/chasysdraw/help.php?file=artist_tutorials_painting.htm)  This is the error message "warning the tool is not in 'custom' mode; gradient object will be ignored". Where do i go to set the gradient tool to custom mode? Thank u for your help.

Hi,
You don't need a gradient object in that tutorial since you're using a transparency gradient to fade an image, so you can just ignore the message.

The gradient object is only used if you've selected an option on the fourth column (custom gradients). Chasys Draw IES is warning you because you've loaded a gradient (which means you probably want to use it) but you're using the tool in a mode that doesn't utilize it.
